Story Time: Kids These Days

So a couple months ago, I received this email (edited for length):
“Hello, I am xxxxxxx, I am an 8th grader at xxxxxxx in Beaverton. As an 8th grader in xxxxxxxx I have to do a year-long project called an action project. An action project is doing research on an issue in the world that matters to you and doing an action to help it. My issue is inequality in men and women's sports. I chose this issue because I am a competitive softball player and I have always wanted to raise awareness about the inequalities and try to assist. To help this, I am making bracelets out of old baseballs and softballs and selling them to later donate the money to an organization that supports women's empowerment in sports.“
I was floored by this student’s enthusiasm and commitment to not only SEE where the world fell short, but a way for her to DO SOMETHING about it. 💪🏼🥎🙌🏼
We quickly became pen pals of sorts as I was instantly a fan. 💖✍🏻✨
On our 1-Year Anniversary, she came in with her family and we met for the first time. She gave me one of her bracelets and we took a few photos together. It was one of the highlights of that day for me!
Couple weeks later, in one of our email exchanges, she mentioned how she really likes the work SHE FLIES does for girls and women in sports and that perhaps the money raised from her bracelets could be donated to that organization. And I was like, “Hey! I know those folks!”

This Sunday, May 21st, you can find this amazing human with a booth at the SHE FLIES Community Festival selling her bracelets! The Festival will be held from 10am-1pm at Overlook Park!
Folks could then hop on the MAX and head to the @thornsfc game from there!
I would LOVE it if she sold every single one of her handmade bracelets! Let’s show up and show her how she’s making a difference! 🙌🏼✨🥎🎉
